KOURASANI plaster is a renowned Roman-Byzantine lime plaster with excellent hydraulic properties and natural hygroscopicity, due to the presence of volcanic ashes and crushed brick or brick powder. It has been widely used through out the Byzantine Empire for its impermeable qualities in the construction of cisterns, baths and underground walls, in direct contact with water.
Following old methods handed down to us by our ancestors, today we reproduce this unique plaster for its high breathability and hydro-regulating capacity.
The color is obtained from the selected bricks (fired in a traditional way at low temperatures), therefore it can be either yellow ocher or clay red.
The granular sizes are 0-3 mm for main coats and 0-1mm for finishings.
It is an ideal material for bio-architectural application because it is 100% natural, it breaths, it’s an excellent humidity regulator and it looks beautiful!
